a German expressionist horror film directed by F.W. Murnau. Although it was a German film, it became well-known internationally and has had a significant impact on the horror genre.
Brief Story of "Nosferatu":
The film is an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic novel "Dracula," and due to copyright issues, the names of the characters were changed, but the basic storyline remains similar.
Plot Summary:
The story is set in the fictional town of Wisborg, where a young real estate agent named Thomas Hutter (played by Gustav von Wangenheim) is sent to Transylvania to negotiate with Count Orlok (played by Max Schreck) for the purchase of a house in Wisborg. Unbeknownst to Hutter, the Count is a vampire.
Upon arriving at the eerie castle, Hutter discovers the true nature of the Count when he accidentally cuts his finger and sees Orlok's unnatural reaction to the sight of blood. Realizing the danger he is in, Hutter tries to escape, but the Count forces him to stay as his guest. During his stay, Hutter becomes weak and feverish due to Orlok's blood-sucking, and he eventually manages to escape back to Wisborg.
Meanwhile, Count Orlok has arranged to have the purchased property shipped to his new home in Wisborg, carrying coffins filled with soil. As the ship travels to Wisborg, the crew members mysteriously start to fall ill, and their bodies are found drained of blood. It becomes clear that the vampire is onboard.
Once the ship arrives in Wisborg, the horrifying truth is revealed when the Count emerges from one of the coffins and begins to unleash terror upon the town. People start to die, and the town is plagued with fear and desperation. Thomas Hutter and his wife Ellen (played by Greta Schröder) realize the danger and attempt to find a way to defeat the vampire.
Ellen becomes a key figure in the fight against Count Orlok, as she bravely sacrifices herself to distract the vampire as the sun rises. As the first rays of dawn touch him, Count Orlok is ultimately destroyed.
The film ends on a melancholic note, emphasizing the tragic elements of the vampire's existence and the price paid for attempting to defeat evil.
"Nosferatu" is considered a landmark in cinema history and a classic of the horror genre. Its eerie atmosphere, haunting visuals, and Max Schreck's iconic portrayal of Count Orlok have cemented its place as one of the most influential horror films of all time
